Classic texts, contemporary novels, poetry, professional and personal development books — all things books and reading. On this educational and literary podcast, I break down texts, analyze important passages, discuss central themes, and other intriguing things you likely won’t learn in a textbook. Other episodes will feature me (and hopefully a few others!) discussing teaching and how to make it a bit more manageable and fun.
New Series Starting Now! The Poetry Series
February is the start of the poetry series for the podcast. Be sure to check out the first episode now! You can also check out the blog post about my favorite poem, which stars in this poetry premiere, here.
Listen In – The Odyssey Series
Check out the first mini-series all about The Odyssey on Spotify or Apple Podcast! In this mini-series, which turned out to be 14 full episodes, I talk about the context of the story: When and how was the story told? What is an epic? Who is Odysseus? And, of course, I cover the events of the entire story, focusing on the details of Books 1, 5, 9, 10-12, 16-17, and 21-23. In addition to discussing the events of the stories, I also discuss themes, historical context, and analysis.
Coming Soon
Episode 1 & 2 transcripts are now available! Check out my shop, or my TPT store.
The rest of the transcripts for these episodes are coming soon. Why do you want the transcripts? Well, if you’re a listener, reading the transcripts can help you take more detailed notes or revisit sections of the podcast without skipping back and forth trying to find the exact spot. The transcripts will also have timestamps, so you can locate that exact thing you want to review. If you’re a teacher, you can use these transcripts for yourself to skim the content. You can identify which parts of the episode will best meet the needs of your course and your students. For a variety of pedagogical reasons, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and support for EL students (SDAIE strategies [Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English]), transcripts provide students with another avenue into and scaffold for the content.
In future episodes of this educational and literary podcast, I plan to cover more texts I use in the classroom with my own students, both secondary and graduate level. Additionally, I am working on episodes about the books I am reading, too. These reads range from YA to personal development books. And, I have plans, or dreams really, of creating episodes with other teachers, new and veteran!
